ART*VR Festival
The festival will consist of a VR section showcasing 20 VR films at the premises of the largest institution focusing on contemporary art in Czechia, the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art (https://www.dox.cz/en). The selection will include a curated competitive section of 10 recent VR films and a thematic section of another 10 VR projects based around the main theme Dimensions of Empathy. The curatorial concept of the event is to showcase the latest developments of the medium of virtual reality and its artistic possibilities, in a visually attractive setting. Our objective is to present artistic and storytelling-based VR works in a comprehensive framing, to bring the most interesting VR films to the general public in our region, including VR projects premiered at the most prestigious international film festivals with VR focus.
We are also aiming to create a platform for VR/XR creators and filmmakers in order to nurture their creativity and boost their reach, with a focus on the Visegrad region and Western Balkans. Our objective is to invite them to the event in person to give them an opportunity to showcase their work, get to know each other, share their experience and form new partnerships. Moreover, our event will pay special attention to the young generation by organizing educational screenings and workshops for elementary and high school students, focusing on fostering empathy through the medium of virtual reality, and on the importance of digital security.
The main part of the festival, together with special events (opening and closing ceremony) and the presence of the VR creators and filmmakers, will be happening from 28. 10. to 5. 11. 2023. However, the installation with selected thematic VR projects will stay at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art until 3. 12. 2023 to maximize its audience reach.
