Green Transportation – Green Visegrad

How do you travel to work on a daily basis? Have you thought about the impact of your commutes on the environment?

Today we would like to talk about transportation, which accounts for about 64% of global oil consumption, 27% of all energy use, and 23% of the world’s energy-related carbon dioxide emissions.

At the IVF, many of us use bicycles on our way to work, while others take public transport or walk. When planning our business trips, we try to be effective and combine project visits with presentations held at the same place. We travel by train whenever this option is available. We would be glad if you joined us and used some of our green tips in your everyday life and in your projects.

Read our tips on how to make your transportation more eco-friendly:

– Walk more for short distances. It is free and it is good for your health.

– Bike to work or use the local bike-sharing system if it is available in your city. You will not only save some greenhouse emissions but also do something for your health.

– Use electric or hybrid vehicles or cars powered by alternative fuels, which do not release emissions to the environment and thus cause less pollution.

– Use public transport. When travelling by bus or train, you can use this extra time for studying, working, or reading.

– Carpooling is a great way to share the costs of fuel and parking.

– Plan your journey and create an effective travel plan. Share rides when more people can travel together.

– Maintain vehicles in the best possible condition and employ green driving techniques (e. drive slower and smarter, regularly check your tyre pressure, travel light).

One of our recently supported projects dealing with environmentalism in motorsport was the project titled This is Electro! implemented by the Slovak Eco Quality non-profit organisation from Bratislava. The open race of electric vehicles (onewheels, electric unicycles and electric skateboards) with riders from Slovakia, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Austria took place in June in Čunovo (Slovakia). The project provided an innovative approach to environmentalism that is still not common in motorsport.
