Modern Roma Identity in the Visegrad Region

Through creative workshops, fashion designers and community workers engage with Roma women and disadvantaged youth sharing the forgotten clothing traditions of Roma in Visegrad region.

In 2019, Romani Fashion Studio from Hungary started a V4 regional project with Slovo 21, z.s. from the Czech Republic and Združenie PRE LEPŠÍ ŽIVOT / YEPP Kecerovce-Olšava from Slovakia. With support of Visegrad Grants, the project aims at popularising the forgotten clothing traditions of Roma in Visegrad region.

Romani Fashion Studio and its partner organisations engaged with Roma women and youth during 2019 through creative fashion workshops, along with collection and documentation of archive photos and traditional garments. The Romani outfits inspired by regional traditions and the collected pieces were featured in the Spring/Summer 2019 collection of Romani Design and will be showcased at a large-scale fashion show at Khamoro Festival 2020 in Prague. Accompanying materials, such as photos, traditional outfits and fashion products created at the workshops in the three countries were exhibited in a traveling exhibition, organised in Košice, Budapest and Prague.
