The week long workshop session is based on wider lectures at the mornings combined with individual meetings helping participants implement gained knowledge in their films. At the start filmmakers focus on intense work in the editing room helping them to discover potential of their material. Based on what they have in their hands they are simultaneously building for their films' specific marketing strategies, devising a proper distribution plan and expanding their knowledge of the international film market and new distribution possibilities. The workshop tutors share their know-how on how to break into the international market even without big budgets, introduce the specific ways how the documentaries can be promoted effectively, and explain how to use festivals and opportunities of the guerrilla marketing strategies. After four days of intense work the near-finished films are “test screened” to a professional audience: top international producers, festival selectors, broadcasters and sales agents, who lead the discussion and provide the participants with fresh feedback on the content and structure of the film, as well as giving updated and realistic comments on their specific strategy of release and distribution. The end of the workshop is dedicated to complicated, but necessary legal issues of distribution – pre-sale and sale contracting, dealing with the rights and providing the participants with a detailed overview of the European sales landscape and conditions. The dok.incubator workshop is a unique meeting point, where in a small group and friendly atmosphere, filmmakers exclusively meet the top global decision makers and work together in a creative way on their films.
