Bridging Borders: Internship Journey with the Visegrad Fund

Introducing our new intern Maciej, who has recently joined the Visegrad Fund team and brings a new energy. He has only been interning for a few days so far, but shares his perspective and motivation for joining us. Here are a few words from Maciej himself about what inspired him to take this journey.

From Krakow to Bratislava: A Graduate’s Leap into Diplomacy

I started my internship at the International Visegrad Fund as a recent graduate of Jagiellonian University in Krakow. I completed my bachelor’s degree in international relations with a focus on contemporary diplomacy. I have always been interested in the world and all the processes that shape it – political, social and cultural. My studies deepened my understanding of these complex dynamics and opened new, previously unknown areas.

A Mountain-Born Passion for Central Europe

Among my academic and personal interests, Central and Eastern European affairs have a special place. The countries of the Visegrad Group have always been particularly close to my heart. I come from Zakopane, a town situated under the Tatra Mountains, which connect Poland and Slovakia. Growing up in this region, I witnessed first-hand how much our peoples have in common – linguistic similarities, cultural traits, ways of being and, above all, a strong affection for the same mountains. These experiences have shaped my belief in the importance of strengthening ties between countries that have so much in common. That is why my support for regional cooperation resonates deeply within me.

From Curiosity to Action: Finding My Way to the Visegrad Fund

I had the opportunity to explore the issues of the Visegrad Group during my academic courses. The more I learned, the more interested I became. Motivated by my growing interest, I started to research on my own and came across information about an internship opportunity at the Fund’s office in Bratislava. I knew immediately that I wanted to apply. The time was right at the beginning of my last semester, when I applied. Finally, just a week after defending my thesis, I arrived in Slovakia to begin this exciting journey.

More Than Just an Internship: A Launchpad for My Future

I can say with certainty that an internship at the Visegrad Fund is much more than just fulfilling a student’s plans. It is a rare opportunity to gain practical experience from a friendly international team, allowing me to develop basic skills in communication, project management and international cooperation. In the future, I want to pursue a career in diplomacy and international relations. Therefore, every opportunity to get involved in practical work is extremely valuable to me.

Discovering Bratislava: Where Work Meets Wonder

Thanks to this internship, I not only have an amazing internship in an office located right in the heart of beautiful Bratislava, but also the opportunity to spend my free time exploring everything the city has to offer. Every day reveals hidden gems, making the capital of Slovakia a place that constantly captivates me. The internship at the Visegrad Fund is the perfect combination of gaining professional experience while discovering the remarkable city of Bratislava.
