2-day event gathering 30 participants (academics and think tank analysts) from Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany, devoted to the questions: 1. How good economic relations between Germany and V4 can be lifted to good political ones 2. To what extent V4 can substitute UK as Germany’s partner on the EU forum after Brexit.
The event will consist of 4 panel sessions with the aim of breaking the problem into more specific subjects. While they will be eventually determined in relation to current state of public debate in October when the event is scheduled for, the planned subjects of reflection on convergence between Germany and V4 are: 1. Trade and Research & Development 2. Attitude to global challenges (Transatlantic relations, China, Russia) 3. Future of the EU 4. Neighbourhood policy.
In order to make discussions more efficient, each panel will be initiated with 2 introductory speeches prepared beforehand by contracted authors.
Invitees from Germany will include representatives of esteemed institutions which will help ideas conceived during the event resonate afterwards, e.g. Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik, Genshagen Foundation.
Specific advantage of the event is that while most often similar debates between German and V4 stakeholders are initiated and funded by German entities, in this case initiative will come from V4 showing region’s intellectual independence.
