Intercultural Student-Journal Workshop
We would like to organize an experimental workshop for V4 students (under 20 years) about the cultural censorship and propaganda in the communist past. The guest speakers (historians, cultural experts, artists) from the Visegrad countries will deliver lectures (min 4) about the life of artists under communism of his/her own country. With the help of the foreigner educators and artists the students will learn how the totalitarian propaganda was worked, and what happened if somebody had “different thinking” in the field of literature, painting, music or any other type of arts. At the end of the workshops the young participants from all countries have to make together a “samizdat” newspaper article with old photos about a specific event/topic from the past like rock concerts, underground cultural gatherings or alternative artworks. With this censorship-circumventing journal, they have to explain the truth against the totalitarian propaganda. We plan to organize the workshop as a part of the festival. To reduce the potential language difficulties of the participants, and strenghten the intercultural cooperation we will focus to non-verbal and visual tasks mainly: making a samizdat newspaper cover with traditional collage technique, drawing witty illustrations, cartoons or caricatures, etc. The workshop will be multilingual.
