Workshop in České Budějovice
During the workshop it is planned to present the previous results of the research on the current and historical situation of Spanish as a foreign language in contrast to different foreign languages that are offered in the obligatory educational (primary and secondary schools) systems of the V4 group. It will also discuss which factors and what level of education favor the learning of Spanish as a foreign language (first/second language introduction, CEFR level achieved, compulsory/optional character of different languages, etc.). The expected goal of this output is to familiarize the participants with the development of the demolinguistic situation in the V4 countries. We consider this aspect to be beneficial with regard to the current questions about the compulsory teaching of a second foreign language at the second level of primary schools in some V4 countries (Czech Republic). Participants will gain an overview of students' preferences in choosing a foreign language in a diachronically contrastive perspective. The workshop will contribute to the strengthening of linguistic diversity, which can have a continuous positive impact for the for-profit sector (tourism, international trade, etc.).
We consider the involvement of participants from more than one country (V4) to be a strength of the workshop, which will allow for an intercultural exchange of know-how in the field of language policy applied in individual countries, linked by a similar historical and political context. The meeting will thus secondarily contribute to the development of professional and personal relations between the participants.
