Wilderness Camp • Veľký Lél Island
International Wilderness Camp in Slovakia: exploring the relations between climate and biodiversity
The wilderness camp will be held over 7 days (including travel) at the Ecofarm Island, near the Danube island of Veľký Lél, managed by BROZ as a Natura 2000 locality for conservation purposes. A total of 12 youth attendees will be invited to participate (3 youth attendees from each partner country: SK, CZ, HU, PL), 1 mentor per country and 2 local coordinators will participate in carrying out the programme during the camp. The aim of the camp is to introduce attendees to the relationship between climate and biodiversity by showing real-life examples of climate change impacts on nature, species and ecosystems as well as on local people (i.e. farmers). The attendees will also learn about the different practical conservation and restoration activities done at Veľký Lél island, which help to increase biodiversity and ecosystem resilience to the impacts of climate change. This will be achieved by field excursions to specific localities. An excursion to the agricultural area with an explanation of the relationship between agriculture, climate and biodiversity will also be a part of the programme. Examples of nature-friendly farming practices and landscape management will be introduced. The field excursions will be supplemented by theoretical workshops such as climate communication, fundraising and project management delivered by experts.
