Film Festival FILMS BY OUR NEIGHBOURS 2023
Films by Our Neighbors project will consist of three major parts in 2023: the film screenings, the industry section, and the trilateral program.
The film screenings part will be similar to last year: each of the four partners will create a program, which we will screen at the festival. The partner programs will be representing the contemporary cinema of their countries, mainly short films, however, they are not restricted by the genres. From our side, we will also create a Ukrainian short film program, and add some feature films from the Visegrad countries. The programs will be presented by curators and 1-2 filmmakers from each program. The screenings will take part in Uzhhorod and some other towns in Zakarpattia — their exact list is yet to be confirmed. In Uzhhorod the screenings will take part both indoors and outdoors, continuing the tradition from the last year. All in all, the film program will consist of the following programs:
min. 4 short film programs and min. 6 feature films from the Visegrad countries;
1 short film program and / or 1 feature film from Austria;
1 feature film from Romania;
1 short film program of Ukrainian filmmakers from the Western part of the country.
The industry part is aimed to establish new connections between Ukrainian and Visegrad filmmakers, and presenting Zakarpattian potential for filming. For that, we will create a series of events — from location presentations and presentations of co-production possibilities and programs to networking events. The final program of the industry section is currently in development.
The idea of a trilateral program is in screenings of the programs, which have been created for Films by Our Neighbours at the festivals of the partners. This would mean that their curation work will not only be shared with the Ukrainian audience but also with the audience of the partner festivals. We believe that it would unite the audiences of partners and also create some interesting discussions, as audiences in different countries would have their own perspectives on the program.
