Krakow Film Festival-V4 CO PRO Meetings
The project V4 CO-PRO MEETINGS aimed to strengthen documentary co-production cooperation among the Visegrad countries by creating a professional platform for dialogue, exchange, and networking.
Implemented during the Krakow Film Festival 2025, the project connected V4 and Ukrainian producers with international experts, supported the development of joint documentary projects, and addressed shared challenges of funding, production, and cross-border collaboration in Central Europe.
Despite geographic proximity and similar production conditions, V4 producers often face fragmented funding systems, limited access to broadcasters, and increasing political and economic pressures. The project tackled these challenges by creating a focused, and professional space for collaboration and discussion.
The core activity was a V4 Round Table, attended by 12 documentary producers from Visegrad countries and Ukraine. Participants discussed the current state of the industry, funding obstacles, and co-production realities in their countries. Ukrainian producers provided particularly powerful first-hand insights into filmmaking under wartime conditions, working with limited resources, filming in conflict zones, and the urgent need for international cooperation as a form of solidarity and mutual support.
The program also included a panel discussion, “Making Docs Together: Co-Producing in the Visegrad Region,” with four V4 experts focused on production and co-production practices, collaboration with public broadcasters and international partners, noting the continued importance of countries such as Germany, France, and the Netherlands, while also addressing regional political and institutional challenges.
In addition, nine V4 producers took part in structured one-to-one consultations with international experts specializing in co-production, financing, sales and distribution, public broadcasting, and major documentary platforms. These sessions offered tailored feedback, practical guidance, and opportunities to build professional relationships.
The project delivered strong professional outcomes and regional engagement. As noted by Julianna Ugrin, President of MADOKE – Hungarian Documentary Association: “The V4 Round Table was very well prepared and gave a strong overview of the current state of documentary production in the region… it was a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, strengthen regional connections, and explore collaboration.” The V4 CO-PRO Meetings confirmed the value of dedicated professional dialogue in strengthening regional networks and long-term cross-border cooperation.
